Ethiopia Bemen Halo Beriti - Roasting profile: EspressoWeight: 200g
Cultivated and processed by our partner Bemen Coffee at the Gedeb Banko Taratu washing station, this fully washed Grade 1 lot showcases the distinctive fruity character of the region, balanced by the classic floral profile associated with Yirgacheffe. The lot is free of cup defects and taints, with zero quakers.
Bemen Coffee was founded by husband-and-wife team Berhanu and Membere, whose combined names inspired the company’s name. Today, Bemen works with more than 3,000 smallholder farmers across Ethiopia, paying premium prices for high-quality cherry to encourage careful cultivation and selective harvesting.
This lot comes from a small group of Bemen’s partner farmers in Halo Beriti Kebele, near the border of Yirgacheffe and Guji. At elevations of 2,100–2,300 meters, farmers grow JARC 74110 and 74112 alongside local landraces on small, traditionally managed plots. The area is home to the Gedeo people, and its unique microclimate contributes to the coffee’s vibrant fruit character.
Farming in Yirgacheffe remains largely traditional, with coffee commonly intercropped with food crops. Most farms are organic-by-default, using little or no fertilizer or pesticides, while the majority of work is carried out by hand.
Farmers selectively handpick ripe cherries and deliver them to the washing station, where they undergo two stages of sorting. The cherries are then pulped and fermented for 36–48 hours before being washed and dried. Parchment is initially dried under shade for two days, then sundried on raised beds for a further 10–12 days, with regular turning and careful inspection.
In the cup, this fully washed lot offers an aromatic and fruity clean profile, with sweet fruit notes, jasmine tea, and delicate floral aromas — a reflection of the high elevation, local terroir, and careful work of the farmers and washing station team.
